In 2016, Ameren served as an economic engine in Illinois and Missouri, with $2.1 billion in non-fuel capital expenditures. Along with our $994 million payroll, Ameren also paid more than $467 million in state and local taxes in Missouri and Illinois.

At Ameren, we believe we are only as strong as the communities we serve. And we are making an impact through employee volunteerism, philanthropic support and investment.
For example, helping diverse-owned enterprises succeed is an essential part of our strategy. Ameren’s robust supplier diversity program provides equal access for all qualified businesses, including those owned by minorities, women, veterans and service-disabled veterans as well as LGBT-owned businesses.
These relationships drive economic growth and bring added value and innovation to our company.
- We are proud to open our doors to the diverse business community with our biennial Ameren Supplier Diversity Symposium. This symposium is an ideal environment for raising awareness of our procurement process among members of the diverse business community.
- We are funding scholarships to allow diverse suppliers to attend the Minority Business Executive Program at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire. Since 1980, the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth has helped minority business executives succeed and now boasts more than 7,000 graduates of its high-impact programs.

Kadilex Construction, Inc. is a heavy highway commercial building contractor in Wood River, Ill. Owner Karl Jefferson says Ameren’s supplier diversity program has given Kadilex access to compete for jobs that otherwise would have been out of reach. In 2016, Jefferson was one of two diverse-owned suppliers who received a scholarship from Ameren to attend the prestigious Minority Business Executive Program at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College.

Ameren exceeded our 2016 goal of 12.9% non-fuel spending with diverse suppliers, finishing with $316 million in total diverse spending, or 13.4%. Here is a breakdown of total dollars for 2016.
In recent years, we have continued to expand our non-fuel spending with diverse suppliers and have significantly enhanced our program with regard to design, execution and promotion.
